Pauline Darley - Photographer 2

Pauline Darley is a french photographer who is based in Paris, her main subject is fashion. For inspiration she looks into different kinds of things, for example, film, mythology, history, music etc. Concerning her fashion photography she bases her work on female portraiture and incorporates her influences in her work which is quite evident. I chose to study this photographer because I feel this is one of the very few good photographers that recreates characters within their work and also because she is one of the few photographers I have found that uses face paint utensils to create their photography. However she doesn't just do this, she experiments with ordinary make up and shows their extent through female portraiture.

In this image Pauline Darley has use a mixture of face paint a make up to recreate a skeleton, i really love this photo. I like how there is no costume, or not that we can really see because it keeps attention drawn to the media make up. I like how she isn't also looking at the camera in this picture from the shoot as it shows the extent of the media make up. I like how her hair is up as well as it doesn't cover the make up and again draws attention to it. I like the use of black and white editing as it matches the colours which are predominantly used for the media make up.

This photo has influenced me to consider hair when doing the project of media make up, for example making the hair stand out so that it acts as a part of the beauty or doing it very simple so it doesn't distract the audiences attention from what I want them to see. This photographer has also influenced me to consider my models poses to show the extent of the make up which I have done, not just camera angles, but where the model is actually looking and how I have them standing.

This photo reminds me of the film Finding Nemo and I feel as if Darley got her inspiration for this shoot from this film. I love how the backdrop matches the braces but still stands out against them, I think this is due to how pale her skin has been made. You can tell this is makeup induced due to the colour of her lips. I also like How her hair is wild as it brings a childish air to the photo. To me this photos story is as if Darla ( the character from Finding Nemo) has grown up. I like the costume in this picture as well as due to the colour it reminds me of innocence which also adds to the idea of this being a grown up Darla.

This photo has influenced me to use films to influence for me shoots, for example, looking at the joker from Batman or even looking what are cartoon characters and resting them into real life, I could experiment with disney and do characters such as the Cheshire cat. This image has also influenced me to consider costume to create a character, for example, the white in this image to me suggests innocence, which is also related to a childhood which is where this films comes from for me personally, so it links really nicely.

In this photo Darley has used Festa from The Addams Family as an inspiration, She did a whole shoot of this and reconstructed all of the characters. I looked at this entire sheet and I loved it all. I really like the pose that the model is pulling in this as it fits with the character of Festa so it works as a perfect reconstruction. I also like how this picture has been put in black and white as it suggests how old this film is and also it describes the Addams family very well as black and white was their dominant colours. Also due to the only colours in this shoot being black and white, the black an white emphasises this as it comes out solid.

This photo has influenced me to use a select few colours for my shoots as opposed to many, for example when doing the make up and costume for the shoot, not over complicating it sometimes but only using two colours which continues within both the costume and the make up. This photo also influences me to consider facial expressions to make a story within my images and elaborate on the character made, for example, in this image it is obviously Festa from The Addams Family.

In this photo Darley has focused on make up, i love this picture because i love the mix of the models complexion with the different make up. I also like how form has formed around her face, forming a shadowed effect on the top of her face slightly. This produces a hidden kind of effect to me. I also like how her lipstick is the same colour as the back drop, and the way her complexion bounces of the back drop in certain parts of the picture. I like the composition of the picture and that the photo focuses on the make up of the model.

This picture has influenced me to consider composition of the model and the zoom of the camera so I can get exactly what I want the audience to see in my image, it has also influenced me to be more precise and less sloppy with the make up as it can turn out perfect looking no matter what extent of difficulty it is. The make up on this image must have taken a long time in order for the silver to stand out on skin, therefore it teaches me to spend more time on the makeup.

Overall I really like this photographer as I think she is quite original and I like how she uses other media products to influence her photography, I think I will incorporate this in my work as i think it can really help me with the face paint side of things and the development of a character. I also really like how she focuses on face paint as I have found it very hard to find photographers that are in the field of beauty photography that use face paint. despite the use of her face pant she also uses make up as well therefore i think she is a photographer that would really help me with my project, I think looking at her work has really aided me in my work because her work is very similar to what I wish to reach to in my project.

Animation Image Bank

In this animated gif it shows the transformation into a butterfly being put on her face and photoshop has evidently been used to produce a 3d effect for the butterfly. I like how in this gif the position of the camera varies and as the butterfly appears, the camera zooms in. I like how black and white has also been used so the colour of the butterfly doesn't steal attention away from the technique of the animation. This gif also uses slight video .

In this gif it shows a deck of card which illustrates sequence. I like this as i like how the cards are also in various positions. I also think this is nice to watch as I like how more and more hearts keep appearing where they keep it in the same suit. I also like how it is consecutive because the numbers go up in sequence. These pictures have been edited to give them a vintage vibe which i really like.

In this gif it shows a person beginning their surf. This gif is a bit boring however it is a good way of showing an animated gif. The one think I do like about this gif is the waves, you can tell the pictures haven't been taken to far apart from each other which I really like. It looks as if it should be a video however you an tell the pictures have just been taken one after the other very quickly. I don't like how you can tell the camera was shaking because the background wavers.

I love this gif because I like how it shows the process of a dive from start to finish. I also like how the camera follows her slightly, you can tell it does because to begin with you can see the sky and as the animation continues it disappears. I also like how the gifs is focused on her dive and not the aftermath because it does not bother to show too much of the development of the splash.

This gif acts as a timeline to show the process of how they turned a scruffy homeless person into a smart looking business man. I also like how this gifs goes quite quickly as it has a lot of frames, I also like how the last frame lasts for a bit longer than the others as it establishes the finishing product. I intend to do a shoot like this showing the process of my everyday make up.

This animated gif shows the cast of the hit show FRIENDS. It shows each of them twice pulling different poses, this animated gif acts as an establishment shoot. I like how each person is in a different position as it produces more of an establishment. I also like how this is in black and white as they all look quite young in this animation, showing that this show was filmed quite a while ago.

Multiple Flash Work Diary

In this shoot we shot the technique of multiple flash which involved us holding the flash button which is direct to the studio light and takings pictures with the subject keep moving, to produce more than one image in one photo, much like multiple exposure. In enjoyed this and I think it is a very good technique for the studio however if you want the subject to stay in one place and only move one part of it, it becomes very difficult as the subject (or the model) can't help but move a little bit, which will become evident within the photograph.

In this image I got Addy to stand in 3 different positions pulling 3 different faces, suggesting 3 different people, even though it is evident she is that same person. In this picture I turned the saturation down due to the last image fading slightly, even though I would prefer if it was not there, each image gets fainter and fainter as it moves to the right, suggesting a ghostly effect, which is kind of intriguing.

In the image below I got Addy to stand in the same place however to close her hands and move them down slightly each time I said 'go' (indicating that I was going to take a picture). I like the idea of this and the hand part as to me it signifies the hindu god of vishnu and I think it is amazing that you can produce something like this digitally. However, as mentioned at the beginning of this work diary, it is very hard to keep a subject in one place and move the other parts, her head seems like I have duplicated the layer and kept dragging it down slightly in workshop, which is not the case. Despite that small factor, I really like this photograph.

Ryan Doco Connors - Photographer 1

Ryan Doco Connors is a portrait photographer whom is inspired by colour, therefore incorporates a lot of colour within his work. He does this through the use of models whom have tattoos and using make up to make a person brighter. His images are quite eye catching and I think he is a brilliant, yet to be discovered, photographer. I chose this photographer because he is one of the few photographers I have found that experiments with face paint and editing to create characters within his work. He also draws focus to his work through the composition of his camera, which really captures his hard work through the make up or the extent of it.

In this photo Connors has used face paint to create a character. I like how he has used a pale background as it brings out the red of the rose and the red surrounding the models eyes. The colours in this photo contrast against each other. I love the make up in this photo as it is quite detailed and represents the holiday of Cinco De Mayo, which translates as Day of the Dead. I also like the form in this picture which to me represents darkness.

This photo has influenced me to consider colour to make a model or a subject more bold, for example, the red against the white here works very well against the white and makes it stand out that much more. This photographer has also influenced me with to consider costume, in this photo the model has no costume on her body however I think this works well as it draws all the attention to the colour of the photo, which is her face and the flower in her hair, which I assume are meant to be the focal points of the image.

In this photo Connors has used editing techniques to produce make up and costume, I like this technique as it changes up what is usually seen. You can tell this photo has been heavily edited but I feel like it is meant to be like this. I like the faded skeleton bone down her chest as it shows where something is meant to be and I think that it works really nicely. I also like the choice of background as the dark backdrop ,ames the model stand out more due to her light skin tone, making her seem very important.

This photo has influenced me to consider using photoshop to edit make up on as one shoot, to change up the continuous use of cosmetics. I think i will face a challenge with this however if you don't try you will never know. This photo has also influenced me to consider the colour that will be clashing against the models skin, it seems better to have loud or dark colours against a light person as it stands out that much more compared to if it was against a person with a darker skin tone.

In this photo Connors has used cosmetics to make the model seem tear stained, which connotes to the idea that she is sad which creates a story for the audience. I like in this picture how the darkness clashes against her light pale skin as the majority of this picture is dark, e.g. her eye make up, her hair, her clothing. I also like in this picture how you cannot see much of the background as it draws more attention to the model. I also like her costume although you can see much of it as it suggests a story in which a person is mourning.

This photo has influenced me to use cosmetics to make a story within my photography work as opposed to simply showing a subject, for example, in this image the run mascara suggests she has been crying, which increases my aspiration to raise questions within my photography work , to create enigma codes within an image. Why has she been crying? What has went wrong? Why does she still seem so strong with her stance? It also builds up a personality for a model in photograph, even though it is just a form of acting.

In this photo I absolutely love the use of costume as to me it shows the idea and story of a fallen angel, this is emphasised with the use of the prosthetic blood, which I really like. I also like the bright purple hair as it clashes against the white dress and almost represents a corruption of purity and innocence. I also like how her eyes have been edited black and I have used this technique previously, however this seems more realistic. I again like the black back drop because the whiteness of her dress and the purple of her hair stand out against it.

This photo has influenced me to consider using costume within my personal shoots to create a better picture and a story to my shoots, for example, in this image the costume suggests that she is mystical, which builds a fantasy story to a beauty photograph. This photo has also influenced me to to consider editing more precisely, for example the pupils, which are black, however they look extremely real where they have been done extremely according to the shape of the eye.

Overall I really like this photographer however he has not done enough work for me to constantly research, i feel as if he is still very unknown due to him being in a field which hasn't quite been identified yet as there isn't a lot of work like it. I like how this photographer is very creepy with his photography as it produces a vibe for an audience, which is a reaction, which is the most important thing. I also like how this photographer is quite indifferent,  for example take the last image, he has taken the fallen angel to a new level because he has gave her a nose bleed, loud hair which insinuates rock (which is meant to be associated with the devil), and black eyes which to me suggest possession.

Blurring Work Diary

In this lesson I shot the technique of blurring. I found blurring very easy, and I found it the exact same as the formal element of movement which I shot last year in my first year of A level photography. I decided to shoot inside as it was very cold outside however I think this worked well as the lighting was dim and brought a dark eerie vibe to my photos. I think I would use blurring within my personal shoots however I wouldn't make it heavy blurring as I would want my subject to be recognisable.

In this photo I blurred my friend called Nathan and it came out really well. However I wanted it more blurry to make it seem ghostly, therefore when I edited the picture I duplicated the layer and dragged it across to give it this ghostly vibe, I think this idea worked well and made the picture come out better. In this picture I like how the colours are quite differing and blur into one another rather than being a whole and hitting each other.

In this picture I quickly took a blurred picture when a random person was walking down the corridor as I thought it would look cool, and I think it does. I like this picture because its almost as if the blurred corridor traps the person in, making it seem as if he alone and something bad is going to happen, or he is something dangerous as he as a subject is completely black. I also like how this picture is on a wonk and the composition is not completely straight as I thinks this adds to the effect I have already listed.
